DC Penthouse
Perched high above downtown Washington, DC, this penthouse embodies refined urban living with touches of European elegance. Designed for a successful businessman with a penchant for hosting gatherings and political salons, the penthouse balances classic sophistication with functional, contemporary updates.
The primary intention for this project was to create an inviting yet distinguished atmosphere where the client could both work and entertain.
With striking red accents woven throughout—a nod to the client's favorite color—the penthouse avoids overwhelming the senses while still showcasing the vibrant personality of its owner. The design features multiple seating areas to accommodate intellectual discussions and casual gatherings, all while maintaining a polished and curated look.
Working within a traditional architectural framework, we elevated the condo’s aesthetic by introducing custom paneling, intricate built-ins, and materials that exude timeless luxury.
A hidden closet within the reimagined kitchen adds an unexpected layer of function and style, while the butler’s pantry boasts Breccia Capraia marble for a striking touch of elegance. The inlay floor at the main entrance, framed by brass details, further sets the tone for the entire space.
With his eyesight in mind, the client requested that the walls remain light to keep the ambiance airy and comfortable, and special attention was given to the lighting design to ensure the space was visually accessible.
Modern recessed lighting was added throughout to offset the condo's previously awkward ceiling lines, while motorized window treatments and hand-plastered walls in the dining room further contribute to the penthouse’s elevated feel.
One standout element is the owner’s bathroom, where Calacatta Viola marble pairs seamlessly with Thassos tile, bringing a sense of luxury and serenity.
This DC penthouse was reimagined to be more than just a place to stay; it’s a space designed for both relaxation and lively conversation.
The thoughtful design choices, from the functional built-ins to the delicate balance of red accents, capture the essence of Parisian charm, allowing the client to feel at home, inspired, and always ready to host.
